The Harrah's Chester/Harrah's Philadelphia racetrack is located on the Chester Pennsylvannia waterfront, and offers an extensive programme of racing for 150 days annually from April to mid-December. At one time the region was served by Brandywine Racetrack and Liberty Bell Racecourse, so Harrah's Chester already had a ready-made audience. The 5 furlong limestones track, with 132 metre home straight, was built on the site where the Sun Shipbuilding company once stood, holding its inaugural harness meeting on 10th September 2006. Its principal race is the Battle of Brandywine, relaunching a race popular at the old Brandywine Racetrack. Within 4 months of its first meeting the track had also opened a casino, operating firstly on 22nd January 2007. When the track first opened it was named Harra'hs Chester and made use of its floodlights, but since the May 2012 meeting it has been known as Harrah's Philadelphia and has not staged any evening meetings. However, it has taken over the running of the E.H. Harriman Cup, Acorn Stakes, Goshen Cup and Debutante Stakes.
